Coulomb Exercise-4: Solution

Two point charges are separated by 9 cm. The attractive force between them is 40 N.
Question 1:
Find the force between them when they are separated by 18 cm.

Solution 1:
F₁ = k (q₁q₂)/(d₁²) = 40 N ; d₂ = 2 × d₁; so (d₂)² = 4× (d₁)²
F₂ = F₁ / 4 = 40 N / 4 = 10 N
