Exercise on Finding Theoretical Yield: Solutions

If 2.1 × 10− 5g of Zn(NO3)2 were actually formed, and
3.8 × 10− 5g of Zn((NO3)2 were formed.

Question: Determine the % yield of this reaction.

Solution:
It was found that 3.8 × 10− 5g of Zn((NO3)2 were formed (i.e. the theoretical yield), therefore:
% Yield = ((Actual yield) / (Theoretical yield)) × 100 = ((2.1 × 10− 5g) / (3.8 × 10− 5g))× 100 = 0.5526 × 100 = 55.26%
