Exercise on Neutralization Reactions & Salts: Solutions
Question: Complete the neutralization reactions & salts equations (Molecular Equation & Net Ionic Equation) of the following:
HCl(aq) + NaOH(aq) → H2O(l) + NaCl(aq) (Molecular Equation)
H+(aq) + Cl−(aq) + Na+ + OH−(aq) → H2O(l) + Na+ + Cl−(aq)
H+(aq) + OH−(aq) → H2O(l) (Net Ionic Equation)
If one of the reactants is insoluble in water (weak base) such as "Milk of Magnesia" (Mg(OH)2):
2HCl(aq) + Mg(OH)2(s) → H2O(l) + MgCl2(aq) (Molecular Equation)
2H+(aq) + 2Cl−(aq) + Mg(OH)2(s) → 2H2O(l) + Mg2++ 2Cl−(aq)
2H+(aq) + Mg(OH)2(s) → 2H2O(l) + Mg2+(Net Ionic Equation)
