Exercise on Mole & Molar Mas: Solutions
Question: Arrange the following samples in order of increasing numbers of C atoms:
- 12 g 12C
Solution: the number of atoms in exactly 12 grams of isotopically pure 12C,
is equal to 6.02 × 1023 carbon atoms.
- 1 mol C4H4
Solution: 1 mol C4H4 = 6.02 × 1023 molecules of C4H4
which means there 4 × 6.02 × 1023 molecules of C = 24 × 1023 molecules of C
- 9 × 1023molecules of CO2
Solution: Same number which is 9 × 1023molecules of CO2
So, the arrangement in order of increasing numbers of C atoms is as follows:
12 g 12C (6.02 × 1023) <
9 × 1023molecules of CO2) <
1 mol C4H4 (24 × 1023 molecules of C)
